The Indianapolis Colts somehow managed to cough up a 33-point halftime lead on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings, ultimately losing in overtime, 39-36.
Buy Titans TicketsThe loss was historic, as the Vikings pulled off what is now the largest comeback in NFL history after overcoming the 33-point deficit.
In the process, they knocked the Houston Oilers off the top spot. It was the Oilers who held the previous record after collapsing following a 32-point lead against the Buffalo Bills in the 1992 AFC wild card playoffs.
Of course, that’s a far worse loss than a down-and-out team like the Colts suffered on Saturday because it happened in the playoffs, but at least the Oilers are no longer the answer to an NFL trivia question.
With the Tennessee Titans likely to lose to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15 on Sunday, the Colts also fumbled away an opportunity to inch closer in the AFC South.
Oh well.
