Colts coach Shane Steichen announced Tuesday that first-round draft pick Anthony Richardson will be the team’s starter for the 2024 season.
Richardson was in a quarterback competition with Gardner Minshew, and it appears he has done enough to earn the job. He is set to start Week 1 against the Jaguars.
Richardson was selected with the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL draft out of Florida and was one of the more hyped players to come out of this year’s class.

Much has been made about his 6’ 4” frame and athleticism. While playing for the Gators, he was a nightmare to contain in the run game, rushing for 654 yards and nine touchdowns and throwing for 2,549 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2022 before being selected by Indianapolis.
Colts fans got their first real look at Richardson on Saturday in the team’s 23–19 preseason loss to the Bills where the signal-caller went 7-for-12 and tallied 67 passing yards, adding a touchdown pass in the process. Minshew went 6-for-6 in the same game for 72 yards.
The highly-touted rookie is set to make his NFL debut when Indianapolis faces Jacksonville on Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. ET.
