Colts’ Dallis Flowers out for season with torn Achilles

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Dallis Flowers will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn Achilles during the Week 4 loss against the Los Angeles Rams.

Flowers left the game during overtime on the Rams’ game-winning drive. It was a non-contact injury, and he had to be helped off the field. Head coach Shane Steichen confirmed to the media Monday that Flowers suffered a season-ending injury.

“Dallis Flowers, he got an Achilles, which is a tough deal. So, he’ll be out for the year,” Steichen said.

This is a tough blow to an already shaky secondary. Flowers had been running as the starting boundary cornerback opposite Kenny Moore II and had done a fine job in his role, allowing a 98.1 passer rating in coverage, according to Pro Football Focus. His last two games had been particularly strong, allowing five receptions on 10 targets for just 41 yards while adding two pass breakups.

With Flowers out for the remainder of the season, it’s likely that rookie Julius Brents will step into the starting role. Fellow rookie Jaylon Jones could also see more time on the boundary. He was the one to replace Flowers in overtime.

There’s also a chance Darrell Baker Jr. works back into the mix after losing his role as the No. 3 cornerback due to a poor start to the season.

We’ll see what’s in store for the Colts’ secondary, but Flowers will be out for the remainder of the season with a brutal injury.
