Colts approach top-five pick in 2023 NFL draft

The Indianapolis Colts are approaching the top-five selections in the 2023 NFL draft entering Week 16.

The only silver lining from the colossal and historical loss against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15 was that the Colts improved their draft slot, bumping up to the No. 6 spot in the order, according to Tankathon.

There are three teams ahead of the Colts that all hold a 4-10 record—just a half-game below Indy in terms of winning percentage, which is what first determines the draft order.

Those three teams include the Arizona Cardinals (No. 5), Los Angeles Rams (No. 4) and Denver Broncos (No. 3). The Cardinals are the only team of the three that currently hold their own pick. The Lions have the Rams’ pick from the Jared Goff-Matthew Stafford trade while the Seahawks own the Broncos’ pick from the Russell Wilson trade.

The Colts have three games remaining on the schedule, and all three could be losses. It may not be likely with the Houston Texans in Week 18, but they’ve played the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs down to the wire in each of their last two games.

The Colts shouldn’t have much of a chance against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16 even though they play down to their competition often.

In Week 17, the Colts are on the road against the New York Giants, who are a scrappy team currently in line for a playoff spot.

We’ll see where the Colts end up in three weeks, but there’s a very real chance they sneak into the top-five picks.
