Colts’ Anthony Richardson remains in concussion protocol

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson remains in the concussion protocol entering Week 4, head coach Shane Steichen told reporters Monday.

Richardson was unable to practice at all throughout Week 3 and ultimately was inactive for the 22-19 upset win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

In order to clear the league’s protocol, one of the first steps is to return to practice with a non-contact jersey. The earliest he can do so is Wednesday, but it’s unclear whether that will be the case.

Steichen mentioned that center Ryan Kelly, who also was inactive in Week 3, remains in the protocol with Richardson. Kelly didn’t practice at all throughout Week 3 as well.

Before the Week 3 game against the Ravens, there was a report that the Colts were optimistic about Richardson returning in Week 4.

Richardson still has time to clear the protocol in order to be active for the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Chances would likely be higher if he returns to practice Wednesday, but we won’t know until that time comes.

If Richardson is forced to sit out another game, Gardner Minshew would be the replacement against the Rams.
