Colts’ Anthony Richardson getting mental reps amid shoulder rehab

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson won’t be on the field at all during the remainder of the 2023 season, but that’s not keeping him from getting work in.

The rookie quarterback is currently rehabbing following shoulder surgery to correct an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, and he recently returned to the team.

As the team prepares to make a run for the playoffs with seven games remaining, Richardson has been actively participating in the classrooms and game-plan meetings leading up to games.

“Obviously, he’s not taking the reps but he’s taking the mental reps in the classroom with us still going through the game plan meetings, sitting in on all those meetings learning so even when he’s on the sidelines during games taking that mental rep on the sidelines hearing the calls and going through it, I think it’ll be big for his growth process,” Steichen told reporters Wednesday.

Richardson’s promising rookie season was cut short due to the injury he suffered against the Tennessee Titans, but the sky is still the limit for the young quarterback, and it’s vital for him to get as many mental reps as he can before the spring workouts arrive.
