Colts Add Talented Veteran Running Back Amid Uncertainty With Jonathan Taylor

Amid a contentious contract dispute with star running back Jonathan Taylor, the Colts have added depth to the backfield by signing veteran Kenyan Drake. The news was shared by agents at SportsTrust Advisors.

The 29-year-old back appeared in 12 games for the Ravens last year, posting 482 total rushing yards while adding four rushing touchdowns.

The Colts are need of help at the running back position as Taylor remains on the Active/PUP list in the midst of a contract dispute with the club. Earlier in the week the standout talent demanded to be traded after a meeting with club owner Jim Irsay that also resulted in some dark comments in response to the trade demand by Taylor.

Backup Zack Moss, who was being looked at as the starter should Taylor’s holdout extend into the regular season, suffered a broken arm earlier this week in a training camp practice. The injury is expected to keep him out of action for the next four to six weeks.

Drake, a former 2016 third round pick of Alabama, will compete with Deon Jackson for first team reps during the absence of Taylor and Moss. Rookies Evan Hull and Zavier Scott are also battling to make the club's 53-man roster, but with limited experience Indianapolis opted to add a veteran presence to work behind rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Drake has rushed for 3,866 total rushing yards and 33 rushing touchdowns over the span of 101 career games.
