With the offseason here for the Indianapolis Colts, let’s take a look ahead to the 2025 NFL draft with a recent mock from ESPN’s Jordan Reid.
In this edition, with the Colts holding the 14th overall selection, Reid has Indianapolis taking fan-favorite Tyler Warren with their first pick, a do-it-all tight end from Penn State.
“Anthony Richardson needs more quality players to throw to in the pass game. Warren would help fill that void, as his alignment versatility makes him one of the most dangerous targets in the country,” wrote Reid….”He’s also a dependable run blocker who could assist the Colts’ rushing attack.”
Warren comes to the NFL with a well-rounded skill set, able to impact the passing game and hold his own in the run game as a blocker. That ability, along with his versatility and being able to be moved around the formation, is an element that the Colts’ offense doesn’t have and would make him an ideal fit for Shane Steichen’s offense.
With that element comes an added layer of unpredictability for an offense.
As Reid notes, Warren measures in at 6-6 – 257 pounds and his 77.2 receiving yards per game in 2024 were the second most among all tight ends. In total, Warren had 98 receptions for 1,158 yards and eight touchdowns.
As already mentioned, the Colts do not have a tight end on the roster with Warren’s skill set and this is a position group that has struggled to produce in the passing game for Indianapolis.
In 2024, the Colts four tight ends on the 53-man roster totaled 467 receiving yards. For some context, there were 25 individual tight ends in the NFL this season who had more receiving yards than Indianapolis’ entire unit.
