Adding to the offensive line shouldn’t be a pressing need for the Colts. In this past April’s draft, they did some planning ahead at a position with a number of veterans by selecting Matt Goncalves and Tanor Bortolini in the middle rounds.
However, adding to the depth of this unit may certainly be a task on GM Chris Ballard’s to-do list, especially with how often he prioritizes adding to this position group.
It’s possible that with Ryan Kelly in the final year of his contract, he is playing elsewhere in 2025 with Bortolini taking over at center. If the Colts wanted to move on from Braden Smith next offseason, who is in the final year of his deal in 2025, in favor of Goncalves, the move would create a hefty $16.75 million in cap space.
Will Fries is also set to become a free agent next offseason. He is currently on injured reserve, but certainly could factor into the Colts’ long-term plans at right guard after playing really well prior to the injury.
So it’s possible that the Colts 2025 starting offensive line unit is already on the roster. But if Kelly and Smith end up elsewhere, the depth of this unit takes a big hit with Danny Pinter and Mark Glowinski set to be free agents as well, leaving Dalton Tucker and Blake Freeland as the only other linemen under contract next season.
Now, one or both of those players could be back as veteran depth options, which is valuable, but building through the draft would be a prudent move as well, which is why we can’t rule out Ballard addressing this position once April arrives.
So with all of that said, let’s take a look at Trevor Sikkema’s top offensive linemen in the 2025 draft class. In parenthesis is the player’s overall ranking on Sikkema’s big board.
