The Indianapolis Colts are back on the practice field Wednesday as they begin preparing for the Miami Dolphins.
Beforehand, head coach Shane Steichen met with the media and said that quarterback Anthony Richardson was likely to be a full participant in today’s practice, according to James Boyd of The Athletic.
Although Richardson has practiced each of the six possible days since sustaining the oblique injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers, in only one of those practices has he been a full participant, which is another good sign that he will be ready to go this Sunday.
A few days ago on Monday, Steichen was optimistic about getting Richardson back this week, as long as there are no setbacks.
“Unless there’s a setback, yeah, I think he’ll be ready to go,” said Steichen on Monday via The Athletic’s James Boyd.
Richardson was a game-time decision for the Colts matchup this past Sunday with Tennessee. However, according to NFL Network, with Richardson not quite 100 percent, the Colts erred on the side of caution.
The last time we saw Richardson was in the first quarter of the Pittsburgh game where he got off to a very fast start. This included completing 3-of-4 passes for 71 yards, including receptions of 32 yards and 28 yards by Michael Pittman that set up touchdown drives.
Getting Richardson back will also provide a boost to the run game. When Richardson is under center, defenses cannot defend the Colts’ running backs as aggressively because of the threat that Richardson possesses with the ball in his hands.
