A sea of colour descended on Liverpool city centre today as the East South East Asian festival took place.
The festival, from Pagoda Arts, took over Great George Square near the Chinese Arch. The event marks Pagoda Arts’ 40th anniversary in the city.
SEA Liverpool is a celebration of East South East Asian (ESEA) cultures in the city and aims to acknowledge their long histories here and recognises the bonds that Scouse ESEA communities have with its other vibrant multi-cultural communities.

From 10am - 5pm today, August 20, there was a sea of colour and excitement in the city centre as the festival launched a number of performances, activities and market stalls. Among the market stall holders were ESEA producers and special guest traders from Granby Street Market.
Throughout the day visitors were able to explore the market and see performances from Pagoda Dance, Danny Pye, Guangxi Dance Group and more. There were also a number of workshops taking place inside a Mongolian Yurt.
Pagoda Arts CEO Zilan Liao said: “Liverpool’s East South East Asian communities have played a significant role in our city’s history. We feel that the time is right to host an East South East Asian cultural summertime festival in our city, one that acknowledges the bond that ESEA and other vibrant communities have with the city, the sea, the world.”
