This week’s edition of the Colorado football coach’s radio show took place Thursday with one particularly notable absence: head coach Deion Sanders.
Sanders, 56, missed this week’s show ahead of a Saturday showdown against Arizona State for what university officials described as health reasons, according to the Denver Post. Assistant head coach Gary Harrell filled in on the show and said Coach Prime was under the weather after having a “bad reaction to his immune IVs,” according to Buffs Beat.
Sanders has dealt with multiple health-related issues in recent years, many of which have stemmed from the amputation of two of his toes, which took place while he was coaching at Jackson State in 2021. In July, he missed Pac-12 media day to undergo a blood clot procedure.
Needless to say, Sanders’s presence—or lack thereof—was felt by Colorado on Thursday.
“Well, you know, we had a team meeting this morning, and any time he’s not in our presence we know something is wrong. He doesn’t miss very much,” Harrell said, per Buffs Beat. “So, I went and checked up on him. He wasn’t feeling well, so we resumed the meeting. But he was at practice, for the entire time. He’s just not at full strength right now, but he’s trying to take care of that.”
Even if Sanders isn’t 100%, Harrell and the Buffaloes expect him to be on the sideline for Saturday’s tilt against the Sun Devils.
Colorado (3–2), hoping to shake off back-to-back losses to Oregon and USC, will travel to Tempe to take on Arizona State at 6:30 p.m. ET.
