A Colorado dentist accused of poisoning his wife's protein shakes to start a new life with another woman is now facing additional charges. James Toliver Craig, who was charged with first-degree murder in connection with his wife's death, now faces two new charges of solicitation to commit murder in the first degree and solicitation to commit perjury in the first degree.
Angela Craig, a 43-year-old mother of six, died in March 2023 from poisoning by cyanide and tetrahydrozoline. The investigation revealed a troubled marriage, financial difficulties, and Craig's alleged plot to murder her.
Craig allegedly flew his orthodontist lover from Austin to Denver while his wife was dying and exchanged sexually explicit emails with her. He created a secret email account and searched online for ways to make murder look like a heart attack and how to make poison.
Investigators found that Craig purchased poisons online just before his wife began experiencing unexplained symptoms. Despite the evidence, Craig's defense team has argued against the direct link between him and the poisoning.
The case also revealed Craig's history of multiple affairs, addiction to pornography, and financial troubles. His wife had expressed intentions to leave him multiple times over the years but was convinced to stay. Craig was also accused of attempting to stage his wife's suicide by asking a fellow inmate to plant fake letters.
Craig's trial has faced delays, with his defense team withdrawing from the case due to a professional conflict. The next court appearance for the 45-year-old dentist is scheduled for December 16.
