A 34-year-old Colombian man appeared in a London court on Monday, facing charges of murdering two men whose remains were discovered in suitcases in southwest England. The suspect, Yostin Andres Mosquera, was accused of killing Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.
During the court hearing at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court, the suspect, assisted by a Spanish interpreter, provided his name, address, and date of birth. Magistrate Christina Ruiz ordered his detention until a scheduled hearing at London's Central Criminal Court on Wednesday.
Authorities revealed that the victims had a prior relationship and were cohabiting with the suspect at their west London apartment. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine stated that there is no indication of a homophobic motive in the killings based on the evidence collected thus far.
Valentine further assured the public that the investigation is ongoing, but there is no active search for additional suspects related to the double murder case. The suspect was apprehended at a train station in Bristol on Saturday, following the discovery of body parts in suitcases on Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.
Police responded to reports of a suspicious individual at the bridge shortly after midnight on Wednesday. However, the man had already departed the scene after arriving by taxi. Subsequent searches at the victims’ residence in London led to the discovery of additional remains.
