Collie boy, 9, hits kerb and dies while riding bike with family

Police say the family lives in the area. (ABC South West: Anthony Pancia)

A nine-year-old boy has died after falling from a bicycle while riding with his family in the town of Collie, Western Australia.

Acting South West District Superintendent Martin Voyez said the boy was on Medic Street when he fell shortly after 1pm yesterday.

"He had a good bike and good helmet, everything was going correct," Superintendent Voyez said.

"When he hit the kerb, and for reasons we are not yet sure of, [he] passes away.

"It was a local family and that makes it all the worse.

Superintendent Voyez said police and emergency service workers who attended the incident were being offered counselling.

WA Police's Major Crash Investigation Section was deployed from Perth to examine the scene.

Police are calling for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident, or the moments prior, to come forward.
