Authorities have launched a homicide investigation following the tragic death of a 23-year-old California college student, Menghan Zhuang, also known as Emily King. Zhuang was discovered with multiple upper body injuries in her off-campus apartment in Newhall, California, on February 4. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that this was not a random act of violence.
According to Lt. Michael Modica, Zhuang's roommate found her lifeless body in their apartment. First responders pronounced Zhuang dead at the scene. It was revealed that Zhuang had returned home with a male companion the night before her death, who was later seen on video footage climbing out of her second-story window the day before she was found deceased.
The man, described as being in his 20s and of Asian descent, is believed to have known the victim. Authorities are working to identify and locate this person of interest. While it remains unclear if the man is affiliated with CalArts, the school has been actively cooperating with the investigation.

CalArts has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Zhuang, a talented art major in her senior year. The community is mourning her passing and is collaborating with her family to honor her memory through a memorial showcasing her artwork. A $20,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest in this case.
Los Angeles Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger has emphasized the importance of seeking justice for Zhuang and her loved ones. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department or remain anonymous by reaching out to the Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers.
