Heading into this offseason, the Minnesota Vikings knew that they had their work cut out for them, especially at the cornerback position. With only three players under contract for next season and the two best cornerbacks, Duke Shelley and Patrick Peterson, set to become unrestricted free agents. It elevated cornerback to one of the more pressing needs this offseason.
On Friday, Patrick Conn of College Sports Wire helped the Vikings when he released a mock draft and had them select Mississippi cornerback Emmanuel Forbes.
“The Vikings have a clear need at cornerback, which is why we have them taking Emmanuel Forbes out of Mississippi State. He hauled in 14 interceptions over three seasons and scored six defensive touchdowns.”
Where Forbes is drafted has varied throughout the early portion of the offseason. Forbes has all the skills you could want from an outside cornerback. While he lacks a dense, thick frame, he’s very decisive and is able to read and react accordingly.
Forbes will have a chance at the NFL Combine next week to really help his stock. If the Vikings end up with Forbes on day one, it would be a solid pick.
