College Football World Reacts to Frenetic Final Minutes of Washington-Texas Sugar Bowl

The Washington Huskies have booked their tickets to the National Championship after winning a wild affair against the Texas Longhorns during Monday night’s Sugar Bowl, 37–31.

Washington didn’t make it easy, but managed to survive a hectic final few minutes of play, during which Texas was inches from mounting a shocking comeback victory.

The Huskies were forced to punt the ball back to the Longhorns with just under one minute left on the clock after an injury to star running back Dillon Johnson stopped the clock on fourth down during a situation in which Washington likely should’ve been looking to take a knee.

After getting the ball back, Quinn Ewers nearly marched Texas down the field on a last-minute, game-winning drive. With one second remaining on the clock, a pass breakup in the end zone from Washington defensive back Elijah Jackson saw those dreams shattered.

The bonkers ending of the game, which didn’t reach its conclusion until nearly 1:00 a.m. ET, left those fans who stayed up late into the night to watch in disbelief as the Huskies narrowly survived the Longhorns’ last gasp efforts.
