College football star sucker punches rival fan after rivalry loss in disgraceful scenes

A college football star appeared to punch an unsuspecting fan in the back of the head when a number of spectators entered the field after Oregon State upset Oregon. The state rivals fought in rivalry weekend in college, with Oregon State coming away with a famous win over the number 10 seed in Oregon.

It was only the third time that Oregon State have defeated their state rivals in the last 14 years with fans being elated over the victory in Corvallis.

Oregon linebacker DJ Johnson was recorded walking off the field, when a fan walked by him and appeared to say something to the sixth-year senior. Johnson reacted furiously, shockingly striking him in the back of the head.

Johnson was quickly dragged away from the incident by a coach, telling him to calm down as others shouted at the Oregon defensive star.

The fan, wearing a cowboy hat and an Oregon State jersey, had his hat knocked off by the punch to the back of the head, but did not look to be too injured in the incident. Johnson is eligible for the NFL draft this season, and is projected to be a mid to late round selection thanks to his six sacks this season.

The talented 24-year-old is expected to be suspended for the incident, but the extent is not yet known. It is also not known if police will be investigating the incident, or whether the fan in question will press charges.

It was a frustrating day for the Oregon Ducks who saw a 17-point lead slip through their fingers from 17-34 to finish 38-34 in an all time comeback from Oregon State Beavers. It's a loss that will keep Oregon out of playoff contention, with the Ducks now having the same 7-3 record.

For Johnson, it could be the end of an impressive final year in college - as he registered three tackles in Saturday's loss, now having 36 on the season and 8.5 tackles for losses.

Whilst their place in the NCAA playoffs is now likely out of the question, they will await their bowl game matchup, with the Washington Huskies and USC fighting it out for the PAC-12 Championship - a game which will feature two highly-recruited quarterbacks who will be in the NFL in the next few years, in Michael Penix Jr and Heisman Trophy favourite Caleb Williams.
