Texas needed a win in the Big 12 championship game to keep its dreams of reaching the College Football Playoff alive, and the Longhorns played like they knew the stakes.
Texas blew out Oklahoma State, 49–21, on Saturday in Arlington, Texas, emphatically stating their case to be one of the top four teams in the country.
However, just because Texas won doesn’t mean the Longhorns will get into the Playoff. The Longhorns likely need Georgia, Michigan or Florida State to lose, with the Seminoles’ No. 4 spot being the most attainable position.
A number of fans believe Texas should be in the Playoff regardless of whether Florida State beats Louisville in the ACC championship game Saturday night.
After all, the Longhorns defeated Alabama in a true road game on Sept. 9, and their only loss came to a good Oklahoma team. Meantime, the Seminoles’ starting quarterback, Jordan Travis, is out for the season.
Additionally, even if Alabama defeats Georgia in the SEC championship game, their loss to Texas looms large in a résumé debate.
I’ve seen enough. Get the Texas Longhorns in the College Football Playoff

Watching this Texas team and knowing in the back of my head that it may not go to the College Football Playoff seems so wrong.

Kirby Smart or Jim Harbaugh are going to be doing backflips tomorrow at this time when the CFP puts this version of FSU in the playoff at No. 4. Zero chance either would rather see Texas.

We need to see Texas in the playoff against Georgia.

Imagine taking down both SEC powers.
Make it happen, committee
I don’t think there are 4 teams in the country better than the Texas Longhorns. But there is a really good chance they get left out of the playoff.

Put them in.

Texas should be in the CFP.
Call it the eye test or style points, No. 7 Texas has looked like a College Football Playoff-caliber team today against No. 18 Oklahoma State, taking control within the first few minutes and never leaving any doubt. Now minutes away from the Big 12 title. #HookEm

Texas belongs in the playoff. Can’t keep them out.

Texas earned the right to be in
— Dan Orlovsky (@danorlovsky7) December 2, 2023
Texas deserves to be in
Texas is 1 of the 4 best teams in CFB
Whatever you wanna use word salad wise to describe it they should be 1 of the 4
Texas now has to wait and hope chaos ensues the rest of the day. At the very least, the Longhorns are likely to jump No. 5 Oregon, which lost in the Pac-12 championship game on Friday, and they also might leap No. 6 Ohio State, whose regular season ended last week.
