College basketball’s opening day featured outrageous blowouts, including a 108-point victory

Blowouts were in the wind as the college basketball season continues its opening stanzas Monday night.

None were as eye-opening as Bryant men’s basketball team’s 147-39 victory over Thomas College, which created a margin of 108 points by the final buzzer.

To join Monday’s outrageous blowout club, James Madison demolished Valley Forge 123-38 to earn its first win of the season. That’s an 85-point win for the Dukes.

Baylor also joined in the blowouts Monday night with a 117-53 victory over Mississippi Valley State.

More ridiculous Monday outcomes: Ball State destroyed Earlham 109-39, Appalachian State blew past Warren Wilson College 142-74, Bucknell squashed Lebanon Valley 113-52, Wofford schooled Bob Jones University 120-48, Oakland defied Defiance 92-27, and Liberty glided past Regent 104-38.

While it wasn’t a blowout, Florida State also suffered a truly embarrassing loss Monday. The team lost to the Stetson Hatters 83-74 in Tallahassee.

And, just for fun, Quinnipiac spoiled Archie Miller’s coaching debut at Rhode Island in a 67-62 upset.

Well, at least it’s a long season for the teams on the losing end of some of these miserable defeats. At least this Bryant player got his first bucket in that team’s 108-point (wut) win! Good on you, John Shannon!
