College Baseball Player Ejected for Celebrating Clutch Walk, and Fans Were Irate

College baseball’s rules against excessive celebration have already stirred up some debate on social media early into this season after an incident that occurred during the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors’ season opener against the Ole Miss Rebels.

Hawai’i infielder Jordan Donahue was ejected by the home plate umpire during the eighth inning due to his celebratory antics after drawing a walk to load the bases during a 4–3 game. 

Donahue could be seen shouting in the direction of the Ole Miss dugout before tossing his bat and preparing to head to first base, antics which the umpire seemingly felt were out of line.

The Rainbow Warriors ultimately lost 5–4 in a 13-inning battle, though much of the postgame attention surrounded Donahue’s early exit.

While the play took place in mid-February, a recent video from Jomboy Media brought newfound attention to the viral moment.

College baseball fans—and even MLB pitcher Alex Wood—were befuddled by the ejection, and they sounded off on social media in the aftermath.
