Colleagues pay tribute to 'lovely person and lovely character' who died in Mansfield car crash with son

Market workers have paid tribute to a man who died in a car crash with his son in Mansfield, with one describing him as a 'lovely person and a lovely character'.

Dan Woodcock and his young son Lewis have been named locally as the father and son who died in a three-car collision on Chesterfield Road North, close to the junction with Pleasley Hill, just after 6.10pm on Saturday, January 15.

Dan ran Herbie's Hemp, a planet friendly waste shop, in Idlewells Indoor Market Hall in Sutton-in-Ashfield, and the stall is temporarily closed.

But Dan was well known to other market owners and workers within the hall, and several have paid tribute to him.

Tina Roebuck, 58, who runs Tina's Woolly Crafts, said: "He was a lovely person and a lovely character around here - he worked really hard at getting his company up and running, and quit his job to run something he really cared about.

"We all got on well with him and he was well loved by everyone here.

"He had a beautiful little boy, and his wife is brilliant, they were a lovely family.

"There are no words to describe what has happened, you wake up and it's right there in front of you."

Debbie Day, 50, who works at Tony's Cafe, opposite Herbie's Hemp, said: "He worked opposite and he was such a lovely person.

"He was so kind and helpful, especially to his customers.

"We're all absolutely devastated.

"I just can't get over it, I really feel for his wife as she has lost the world.

"Overall, they are a fantastic, loving, beautiful family, and everyone at Tony's Café pays tribute to a wonderful man and his family."

Rachel Annable, 53, who runs Time Watch Company with husband Chris, said: "He was always cheerful and made time for others, he was very passionate about his work and his family.

"Everyone remembers him in different ways, but the impact he had was incredible.

"We've all become a family in here, we've become a family group of businesses, and customers have realised as well.

"We are all devastated, we're still in shock."

Chris said: "He always tried to be positive and he never raised his voice or ever got angry."

Other market workers and owners said they felt it was too soon or raw for them to be able to comment.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help with funeral costs here, and market stall Spicee is also taking donations in person.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Sergeant Craig Luckett, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We continue to investigate the incident thoroughly and as part of our ongoing inquiries we are now re-appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with dash-cam footage to please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 561 of January 15.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
