Colin Cowherd has built his own media network even while being employed by FS1, and he's now got an opportunity to capitalize even further on his success.
The host of FS1's "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" has at least three private equity firms interested in investing in The Volume, Cowherd's sports media company, according to a report by Front Office Sports.
He is reportedly weighing whether he will sell the whole company or a part of it.

The Volume launched in early 2021 and houses several podcasts with popular sports personalities such as "The Draymond Green Show" and "The Richard Sherman Podcast." Cowherd also his own podcast on the platform separate from FS1 called "The Colin Cowherd Podcast."
The Volume also partnered with Cowherd's former FS1 colleague Shannon Sharpe by housing his podcast "Club Shay Shay" and even adding a second podcast with Sharpe and Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson called "Nightcap."
According to FOS, "Club Shay Shay" downloads have risen 75% since it joined The Volume.
Cowherd's opportunity with The Volume is similar to his ex-colleague Bill Simmons who was able to create his media company, The Ringer, which he eventually sold to Spotify for around $200 million in 2020.

Simmons left ESPN in 2015 and founded The Ringer the year after, while Cowherd has continued to operate his company while maintaining his reportedly multi-million annual contract with Fox that ends in 2025.
Cowherd's reached an era where major media outlets like ESPN and FS1 have allowed their personalities to build their brands outside the companies as seen through Sharpe or even Stephen A. Smith.
Cowherd's next steps with The Volume could then figure in to his future status at FS1.
