Coleen Rooney holds back tears as she says Wayne's cheating with escorts is 'unacceptable'

Coleen Rooney couldn't help but get emotional as she bravely talked about her husband Wayne's cheating in the new documentary about the footballer's life and career.

A string of sex scandals has blighted the former England star's career and the mum-of-four had tears in her eyes and struggled to get her words out as she explained once and for all why she has taken her husband back so many times.

"I wouldn’t be standing here if I hadn’t forgiven him," Coleen explains in the new documentary Rooney, premiering on Prime Video on Friday.

“Life goes on and I’ve accepted, well not accepted, I’ve moved on, you’ve moved on and it’s…,” Coleen struggled.

And when asked if she’s accepted her husband’s cheating, she said: “No not the behaviour no, it’s not acceptable,” she said.

But Coleen says she has learned to forgive her childhood sweetheart and let go of her anger.

"Forgiveness is different, I’d say is different," she said.

"I wouldn’t, it’s not acceptable that what he’s done but it’s happened and that was the stage of life we were in at the time but we’ve moved on.

"I forgive him but it wasn’t acceptable.

"But it’s not something that, if it come up we’d talk about it like we’re talking about it now I haven’t got the anger that I did at the time."

And Wayne explained that the couple have had to work through their issues - which starts with him explaining each indiscretion to his wife.

“When these things have happened, we’ve sat down and I’ve explained what’s happened and it’s not nice, it's not a nice thing to have to do," he said.

“It won’t happen again, I don’t want it to happen again and for us to get through it, it was tough.

“Tough days, tough weeks, tough months but I feel we’ve been through hard times and it does make you stronger as well.”

Coleen admits she thinks it’s amazing that they’re still together after Wayne started visiting prostitutes at the age of 16.

Coleen managed to overlook Wayne's past with sex workers - despite the national outcry - and went on to marry him in 2008.

"We’re lucky that we’ve both had the strength and support of each other and people around us to keep going and trying," she said.

“And that’s something that we have had to work at.”

The highly anticipated documentary film Rooney launches on Prime Video on Friday 11th February.
