Coleen Nolan has marked what would have been her beloved sister Linda’s 66th birthday with an emotional tribute, recalling memories of a star whose life was as brilliant on stage as it was behind the scenes. Linda, the Irish singer who rose to fame at just 15 as part of the famed Anglo-Irish pop group The Nolans, passed away in January after a long battle with secondary breast cancer that had spread to her brain, according to the Daily Mail.
Linda’s health struggles were well-known to fans. First diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, she was initially declared cancer-free following six years of treatment in 2011. However, in 2017 tumours were discovered in her hip bone and pelvis, leading to a subsequent diagnosis of incurable secondary breast cancer.
After receiving palliative care for the condition, Linda succumbed last month at the age of 65, compounded by a bout with double pneumonia over the festive period, reported Metro.co.uk.
Now, Loose Women host Coleen, 59, has shared a touching video tribute on Instagram. In the clip, which shows the sisters dancing and celebrating at a party with choral music playing softly in the background, Coleen reveals the depth of her loss. She writes, “To my beautiful sister… think of you every day, but especially today on your birthday… I miss you so much and life won’t be the same without you in it… [sic]”
The video captures moments of joy and candid laughter – including a memorable scene of the pair laughing uproariously as Linda removes her wig – that encapsulate the vibrant personality Linda was known for.
Fans quickly responded in the comments with heartfelt messages. One wrote, “What a wonderful memory of a beautiful sister. I’m not crying ,” while another commented, “This is a lovely video and tribute to your Sister
.” Further tributes included, “What a BEAUTIFUL video Col, I can’t speak
” and, “This made me cry & laugh at the same time, happy heavenly birthday beautiful Linda.”
Coleen had previously expressed her grief following Linda’s death in a heartfelt Instagram post, stating:
“I am utterly devastated by the passing of my sister, Linda. Linda was a beacon of love, kindness, and strength. Her wit, humor, and laughter were infectious, her presence could light up any room.”
“Linda had a heart full of compassion and always knew how to bring comfort and joy to those around her.
Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched, and while we will miss her more than words can express, we take solace in the love and warmth she shared with all of us. Rest in peace, Linda. You will forever be in our hearts.”
Earlier this month, a moving ceremony at St. Paul’s Church in Blackpool saw the family – including sisters Anne, Maureen, Coleen, and Denise – bidding a final farewell. Denise fondly recalled,
“She really loved going to premieres and opening nights, having her beautiful hair and make-up done, and always was the life and soul of any big occasion. She would have loved all the fuss today.”
The Nolans, formed in Blackpool in 1974, left an indelible mark on the music world with hits that still resonate today. Amid these celebrations of Linda’s life, Coleen’s tribute stands as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy of a sister dearly missed.
