Cole Palmer injury: Chelsea star set for scan ahead of Arsenal showdown

Cole Palmer will this week undergo a scan on his left knee amid fears the Chelsea star was injured by Lisandro Martinez during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Palmer was left with stud marks on his knee after a wild challenge by United defender Martinez, which saw the midfielder limping out of Old Trafford and reportedly still in pain during the journey back to London.

Blues manager Enzo Maresca said afterwards that Martinez should have been sent off for a "clear red" card after referee Rob Jones was not asked to review the decision by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

“It’s quite clear for all of us but the referee is there to make a decision and he took a different decision,” said Maresca, who confronted Jones after the full-time whistle.

“I said, for me, when there’s no intention to go for the ball and you go for the player, it’s a red. When there is no intention to go for the ball, and you go for the player, for the legs, there is no doubt about the decision. It’s quite clear it’s a red.”

Chelsea are understood to hopeful that Palmer has not sustained any serious damage, and will be fit for the visit of Arsenal on Sunday in a huge Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer is not in Chelsea's Conference League squad, so will not face minnows FC Noah on Thursday.
