Cole Kmet vs. Eddie Jackson has been matchup to watch at Bears training camp

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus has preached competition since his arrival in Chicago, and it’s in full swing at training camp after just six practices.

The Bears have had only one padded practice through Tuesday, but one of the most intriguing matchups to watch this summer has been between tight end Cole Kmet and safety Eddie Jackson.

The two have had their opportunities to go against each other both in 1-on-1 drills and team drills, and it’s always a battle. Usually one that has gone Kmet’s way.

While it was Kmet besting Jackson earlier on, it was Jackson getting his way with Kmet on Tuesday with a couple of wins.

Here’s what NBC Sports Chicago’s Josh Schrock had to say:

While the tight end has gotten the better of the veteran safety early in camp, Jackson had two wins Tuesday as the Bears use two of their most important players to sharpen each other’s skills.

Kmet and Jackson are both entering important seasons. For Kmet, he’s looking for his breakout season in Year 3. Given the chemistry he’s building with Justin Fields and his involvement in the passing game, Kmet has the potential to be an impactful weapon on offense.

Then there’s Jackson, who’s looking to get back to his ballhawking form from his first two seasons in the league. With the addition of rookie Jaquan Brisker, who will fill the strong safety role, Jackson should benefit as he gets to roam centerfield.
