Coldplay forced to cancel eight gigs as Chris Martin is struck with horror lung infection

Coldplay have been forced to cancel eight shows this month after frontman, Chris Martin, was struck down with a horror lung infection.

The globally-adored band were due to perform two shows in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 11 and 12 and six more shows in Sao Paolo, Brazil between October 15 and October 22, but now all of those have been postponed to 2023.

The award-winning British band issued a statement on social media, revealing the shows were postponed due to Chris Martin, 45, coming down with a serious lung infection.

"With deep regret, we’ve been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo until early 2023," the statement read

"Due to a serious lung infection, Chris has been put under strict doctor’s orders to rest for the next three weeks.

"To everyone in Brazil who was looking forward to these concerts, we’re extremely sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience, and we’re so grateful for your understanding at this challenging time where we need to prioritise Chris’ health."

Coldplay, which is made up of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland, and Will Champion, continued: "We are trying to lock in the new dates and will follow up with more information in the next few days."

According to Coldplay's official website, the tour will resume October 25 at Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Their lengthy tour is currently scheduled to conclude July 19, 2023 in Amsterdam.

The postponed tour dates fiasco comes after Chris revealed how his girlfriend Dakota Johnson has helped him to improve shows for hearing-impaired audience members - all thanks to a special gift she gave him.

The Fifty Shades Of Grey actress, 32, gifted the singer with a SUBPAC - which is a vest that allows wearers to physically feel sound frequencies they might not be able to hear.

The singer-songwriter then decided to hand the vests out to hard-of-hearing audience members at Coldplay shows.

The concerts also provide sign language interpreters for those who need them.

"My partner, she said: "I got you a Christmas present of a SUBPAC," Chris told CBS Mornings.

Dakota seems to have gotten the idea from Billie Eilish 's brother Finneas O'Connell.

Chris added: "She said it's like what Finneas Eilish wears onstage when he's with Billie, and it vibrates, so it's useful for someone like Finneas to hear where the one is on the bass drum."
