Coldplay fans can cycle bikes to power Cardiff gig at the Principality Stadium

Coldplay are heading to Wales and fans can participate in the gig like never before as the sustainability ethics of the band mean that gig-goers can help create renewable energy for the show, powering the spectacle they will no doubt immerse themselves in.

At the two Principality Stadium shows on June 5 and 6, fans will be able to do their bit while watching Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion perform their Music of the Spheres show by creating energy through cycling on the power bikes and dancing on a kinetic dancefloor.

In a statement released on their Instagram, the band told fans that their current tour had produced 47% less CO2e emissions than their last stadium tour, A Head Full of Dreams - they also called in Cardiff during that world tour and you can read more on that here.

The post added that they run the show from an electric battery system which allows them to use 100% renewable energy and thanked fans for their help and efforts. It said: "Thank you too, so much, to everyone who's come to the show and made all this possible. You have helped charge the show batteries on the power bikes and kinetic dancefloors: traveled to shows by foot, bicycle or public transport; ride-shared; used the recycling bins; brought refillable water bottles; returned the LED wristbands after the show."

So during the band's 20+ song-strong set, instead of sitting down or dancing, you can jump on a bike and help power the audio, lights and lasers by peddling for a bit - who said exercise wasn't fun? The band also asks their fans for ideas to make their tour more sustainable, too - find out more about the initiative at their website.

As well as the band asking for fans' help to contribute to the sustainability efforts, the Principality Stadium are also asking them to help reduce landfill by discarding your waste in the correct bins whilst at the stadium. All bins are colour coded: Blue – Paper and Card, Yellow – Food Waste, Red –Plastic and Cans.
