Colby Covington predicts easy win for Gilbert Burns vs. ‘broken man’ Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287

Colby Covington sees Gilbert Burns easily beating Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287.

Burns (21-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) meets Masvidal (35-16 MMA, 12-9 UFC) in the UFC 287 co-headliner April 8 in Miami.

Masvidal is coming off a lopsided decision loss to Covington (17-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) at UFC 272 in March 2022, and Covington thinks “Gamebred” is no longer the same fighter after suffering his third straight loss.

“Jorge is a broken man,” Covington said on Michael Bisping’s “Believe You Me” podcast. “He’s not the same fighter after I destroyed him, beat him 50-44 with a soda. Obviously, he’s had emotional letdown. His life is unraveling. Look at obviously what he came and did. The guy, he’s done a lot of drugs and just a lot of things that have rotted his brain and his body. You could tell he’s just not the same person. I just see ‘Dilbert’ (Burns) getting an easy win.”

After he beat Masvidal, Covington was declared No. 1 contender for welterweight champion Leon Edwards, but he doesn’t see the same fate for Burns with a win.

“Gilbert’s a nice guy, family guy,” Covington said. “He’s not Colby Covington, so he’s not going to get a title shot off of beating ‘Street Judas’ (Masvidal). But the thing is, he’s going to be one or two fights away after he beats ‘Street Judas,’ and he’s going to be close.”
