Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal kept apart as UFC calls in police for weigh-in

Police were on stage as Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal were kept apart for their final face-off ahead of UFC 272.

It was Masvidal who got the applause from the Vegas fans as he came on stage whilst Covington played up to the crowd and welcomed their booing.

Much like their previous face-off, security and UFC boss Dana White made sure the two rivals kept a considerable distance away from each other to prevent an altercation from breaking out.

"This guy's a b**** and I can't wait to prove it tomorrow. Colby, do me a favour and sell that b****. You get up here and talk all that s*** so they buy that pay-per-view which you aren't getting none of," Masvidal said.

And Covington said: "Tonight is Street Judas' last supper, tomorrow I'm sending him to the electric chair. I'm gonna flip the switch and fry his bum a**."

Both fighters hit the welterweight mark on Friday morning as Masvidal, who was one of the last fighters to weigh-in, looked noticeably trimmer on the scale.

Covington hopped his way to the scale whilst Masvidal sported a new tattoo that seemingly paid homage to his 2019 flying knee knockout over Ben Askren.

The rivals were also kept apart at their press conference on Thursday, with Masvidal attempting to kick Covington as security made sure they couldn’t get close to each other.

They traded personal insults in one of the most heated press conferences in recent years, with Masvidal pretending to throw a water bottle at Covington as tempers boiled over.

"You're a handout little b****. You took a PPP loan, you took an Obama phone. Have you still got your Obama phone? You're a lying a** piece of s***," Covington told his rival.

"You won't do s***. You're all talk no walk b****, this ain't Tony Montana you're 'Phony Montana'".

Covington became friends with Masvidal after being recruited by his gym fresh out of college, but after almost a decade of friendship the pair are now bitter enemies.

Masvidal said he fell out with Covington over an alleged payment issue to his of his longtime coach Paulinho Hernandez, but Covington has denied the allegation and said Masvidal got “jealous” after he became a top welterweight contender.

And UFC boss Dana White thinks there has never been a rivalry like Covington and Masvidal's in promotional history.

"I don't know if there's ever been one like this where the guys were actually teammates, roommates, friends and cornerman," he said.

"These guys go way back and I don't think there's ever been one like this, not even close."
