Colak insists Rangers must 'win ugly' sometimes

ANTONIO COLAK acknowledged the Rangers fans’ frustrations that led to some booing following the win over Dundee in midweek but felt there were days when the team would have to “win ugly”.

The Ibrox side toiled for long spells on their way to booking their place in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final, a fifth successive domestic victory.

That wasn’t enough to appease some supporters who wanted to see greater urgency in the performance as had been shown in recent 4-0 wins over St Mirren and Hearts.

Colak has quickly adjusted to the demands at the club having made the move from PAOK in the summer but argued that sometimes winning only would have to suffice.

“The coaches always prepare us in the best possible way to play the best possible football,” said the Croatian international. “But in football it is all about success. We always try to play beautiful football but sometimes you have to win ugly.

“The fans have the right to give their opinions. I understand that. But I’m a really positive guy and I always want positive vibes and energy. I know what our fans can give us with their power and their energy.

“We are playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world so this [the fans’ booing] is a part of it. That’s why we only have players who can stand this pressure. I like to play under pressure as I want to win every game and to score.”

Colak relishes the competition with Alfredo Morelos and the fit-again Kemar Roofe but hoped his 13 goals for the season would see him start more games than not.

“I set my target to be the number one striker and that’s what I’m working hard for,” he added. “Me and Alfredo have a normal relationship as it is in any team. It’s like being in a big family. Of course everyone is fighting for their position. He wants to be the top man as a striker and I want to as well. We give everything in training and then it is down to the coaches.”
