Cody Gakpo told exactly why he should reject Bayern Munich offer to join 'new improved' Arsenal

Cody Gakpo has been told that Arsenal could potentially be the ideal move for him despite reported interest from German giants Bayern Munich. The PSV Eindhoven wideman has caught the eye over the past season for his exhilarating performances in the Eredivisie and in Europe.

Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs interested in making a move for the young Dutchman and it has been suggested that the Gunners are already leading the race for his services. That is despite the likes of Bayern Munich being credited as admirers.

Regardless of the interest in him from the Allianz Arena, Gakpo has been urged to reject a switch to Bavaria in favour of a move to the Emirates Stadium by former PSV and Ajax star Kenneth Perez.

As quoted by ESPN, the Dane said: “That [Arsenal] would be a really good club for him. This is of course no longer the Arsenal of the past and they are between fifth and tenth place.

“They are still not there, but you just can’t look at league standings. Last year they finished tenth. If they have a good year, they will finish fourth.”

Despite the Gunners not quite hitting the heights of previous eras, Perez is in no doubt that Arsenal would give Gakpo more time and space to develop than the current Bundesliga champions would.

He continued: “A club like Bayern Munich wants you to grow a lot. You won’t do that in the Eredivisie. That’s why the step up is often so difficult. And that’s why Arsenal [may be a better choice].”

Gakpo’s performances this season certainly suggest that the 22-year-old is ready to make a switch elsewhere. In 37 appearances for PSV this term, he already has 16 goals and 15 assists to his name in all competitions despite having missed a few games with injury.

He still has over four years left to run on his current contract at the Philips Stadion.
