A South East man accused of the murder of mother-of-three Synamin Bell has pleaded not guilty.

Cody James Edwards, 25, appeared via video link in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court today from custody at the local police station.

He was charged after the body of Ms Bell, 26, was found in a Poole Street property on Saturday night.

Police have previously described the crime as a "domestic incident".

Mr Edwards did not apply for bail.

The police prosecution asked Magistrate Koula Kossiavelos to adjourn the case for one year due to the large amount of evidence, including analysis of fingerprints and DNA, blood splatter and mobile phones.

Magistrate Kossiavelos decided to bring the matter back in nine months to give the court a "better picture" of how the investigation was travelling.

Mr Edwards was remanded in custody until his next court appearance in December.

Ms Bell's children are aged six, four and three.

Ms Bell's brother Luke McGaughey yesterday said he and his family were going through shock and grief and that their priority was "looking after [Synamin's] children and keeping her memory alive".
