Cody Drameh has been named Cardiff City’s player of the season – despite only arriving in January

Leeds United’s Cody Drameh has been named Cardiff City’s player of the season despite only arriving at the club on loan in January. Cardiff City had a poor start to the season and many expected them to have a relegation battle come the end of the season.

However, they are currently in 19th place in the Championship wand are easily safe from the drop zone. A significant factor in the Welsh side establishing some stability in their side was the arrival of Cody Drameh in January.

The young right-back had been with Leeds United for the start of the season, but only played a handful of games, and although he had impressed at Elland Road he was sent on loan to Cardiff during the January transfer window.

Since then the 20-year-old has played in every Championship match for his temporary side and by all accounts has performed fantastically. As a result he was voted by fans as being the club’s player of the season, as well as picking up the young player of the season award, despite only being there for a few months.

Cardiff boss Steve Morison has already made clear he would like to keep Drameh permanently though he knows it is unlikely, saying in February: “He will go back to them at the end of the season if he continues to perform at those levels between now and then. I would say it will have been a very good loan for him. We play to his strengths and he's a lovely kid to go with it."

Cardiff City only have one match left to play this season. What Leeds manager Jesse Marsch will decide to do with Drameh after that remains to be seen.
