Cocktail bar offers cheap getaway to Hawaii in Dublin’s only Tiki venue

Holiday prices are going up and with the waiting time in airports, there’s just too much time and money put on the line to go to your dream holiday destination.

If you want to get the Luas rather than a plane, you can transport yourself to Hawaii without suffering from jetlag.

But you might suffer from a hangover after your visit.

Ohana on Harcourt Street is Dublin's only Tiki bar and it's well worth a trip.

Caoimhe Phelan from Ohana told Dublin Live: “It’s 17 hours to get to Hawaii from here. This is as close as you’re going to get.

“There is no rum specialty bar in Ireland and the Tiki concept has been around since the Prohibition, it came into play when the Prohibition ended.

“It was because rum was on these faraway island and everyone was exploring and thought it was great, it was a massive thing in the 1910s to 1930s in America.

“People come here through word of mouth and TikTok. People love the decor and detail. Right down to the coasters we really care for detail, they’re made out of bamboo that are important.

“Our toilets have pineapples on the door and our glasses have been imported by a man who bakes them in his oven.”

But why should we ditch the typical Irish culture and head to a Hawaiian bar instead of the common traditional pub?

Caoimhe said: “The old man's pub is something typically visited and our age group specifically, it makes us feel the need to act older and mature.

“But this is somewhere you can come and act your age. There’s a disco bar, a DJ most nights. You sit in the corner at an old man's pub, you can do that at home.

“In Temple Bar you don’t get the same customer service because there’s so many people, but here it’s more intimate, it’s quieter, you can have fun with the staff.

“We’ve a very small team, everyone gets on really well, it’s a great local to have. Everyone loves the Pina Colada here.

“I’ve had friends saying they’re the best and the mojitos here are amazing.

“I’ve travelled all around the world and every cocktail bar, and none of them compare to the ones that we serve here.”

So maybe avoid booking that flight and get yourself down to Harcourt Street for a tropical experience you’ll never forget - until you have too many cocktails.
