Cocaine and heroin dealer tried to run away after city centre street fight

A drug dealer who was spotted by police after a large street fight in Nottingham city centre has been jailed. Olajiire Albert-Shoyombo, 20, tried to run away from the scene in Shakespeare Street but was chased by officers and tackled to the floor.

He had also been arrested three months previously after being seen by officers dealing cocaine and heroin on the streets. Mobile phone evidence gathered after the two incidents allowed police to build a strong case against him.

Albert-Shoyombo, of Ashfield Road, Sneinton, was given a custodial sentence of three years and four months in a young offenders' institution when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (23 March 2023). He had earlier been convicted of one count of being concerned in the supply of heroin and one count of being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Police broke up the street altercation involving a large number of people at around 3.30am on Saturday 29 October 2022. They pursued Albert-Shoyombo when he was seen fleeing the scene.

Officers caught up with him in an alleyway off Bluecoat Street where he was arrested. Albert-Shoyombo remained silent during police interviews, but phone analysis showed he had been dealing Class A drugs between April and October 2022.

A search of his home address also uncovered a number of other phones which have been linked to further criminality. During the earlier incident, on July 20, 2022, Albert-Shoyombo had been observed by officers on plain-clothed patrols dealing drugs in an underpass between Union Road and Alison Walk, St Ann’s.

Officers knew the location was being used by dealers and while detaining Albert-Shoyombo they found drugs and cash in the pockets of his shorts. A search of his flat found further Class A drugs, cannabis, multiple mobile phones, knives, cash and drugs equipment.

Detective Constable Marc Prangnell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers on patrol that night were called to a large altercation involving a group of people. It was a very confusing situation and they did an excellent job to pursue Albert-Shoyombo and detain him. Despite previously being arrested for drug dealing, Albert-Shoyombo had continued his criminal activity and further phones seized by officers helped to develop an even stronger case against him.

“Drugs remain a scourge on our communities and putting dealers like Albert-Shoyombo behind bars remains a key priority for the force.”
