Coatbridge school's netballers reach Scottish Cup final

Netballers from St Andrew’s High School in Coatbridge are celebrating after reaching the Scottish Cup final.

The school’s under-13 squad are gearing up for a big clash with All Stars Netball Club in this weekend’s showdown at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, following an impressive run of victories to make it into the final two of the competition.

The girls remained unbeaten in the Central League this season up against Stirling, Peebles, Bass Rockateers and West Edinburgh Eagles in home and away fixtures to progress to the knockout stages.

The next round in March took them to Aberdeen to take on Shetland Netball Club, where they came back to Coatbridge with a 16-10 win.

And, on reaching the semi-finals, a home tie against Clydebank Cobras was up next on Wednesday, May 4.

Putting pressure on their opponents from the start with impressive play all over the court, the girls took a 36-12 win to reach the final.

Coaches Mary Ross, Doreen McAuley, and Carol Colquhoun are extremely proud of the girl’s achievements and their hard work over the whole season.

They will now look to round off a great year with a win over All-Stars tomorrow.

The St Andrew’s netball squad comprises: Mia Dean, Enya Doran, Leanna Elliot, Florence Hagerty, Sarah Hagerty, Mila Kerr, Lucille King, Dionne Maguinness, Alexandra McLaughlin and Juliet Smith.
