The Coastguard were involved in assisting emergency services for a medical incident on Skomer Island on Saturday. Crews from a number of stations were called to the island on Saturday afternoon, and the Coastguard helicopter was used to transport a patient to hospital.
People near Morriston witnessed the Coastguard helicopter landing near Morriston Comprehensive school, where they were then transported to Morriston Hospital by ambulance. Locals in the area praised the Coastguard for their efforts.
The helicopter was seen landing in the area at about 3.30pm on Saturday. Skomer Island is an island off the coast of Pembrokeshire which is only accessible by boat. It is famous for its sea life, most notably the puffins that call the island their home.
In a statement, a spokesperson from the UK Coastguard, said: "Dale and Mumbles Coastguard Rescue Teams, Angle RNLI lifeboat, Little Haven Independent Lifeboat and the Coastguard Helicopter from Newquay were sent to assist in a medical incident on Skomer Island at approx. 1.30pm yesterday (24 June). A casualty was assisted to a lifeboat by teams and extracted to Morriston Hospital by helicopter."
