Coastguard called in to help in search for missing Scot last seen almost a week ago

The Coastguard and lifeboat crews has been called in to help in the search for a missing North Uist man who was last seen almost a week ago. Duncan Macleod, 52, disappeared from the Baymore area of North Uist on the evening of Wednesday, November 9.

He was reported missing on Monday, November 14, after failing to return to his home in the Western Isles. Rescue teams from Lochmaddy, Benbecula and Lochboisdale, supported by a helicopter unit and Stornoway lifeboat crew have now joined police in the search for Duncan.

His disappearance has been described as "out of character" and police are asking anyone with information or a potential sighting to get in touch. He is described as being 5ft 8in tall with greying hair.

A spokesperson for the RNLI said in a statement: "On Monday evening, HM Coastguard rescue teams from Lochmaddy, Benbecula and Lochboisdale were sent to help Police Scotland with the search for a missing man on North Uist.

"The Coastguard helicopter from Stornoway and a lifeboat from Leverburgh have also assisted with the search, which continued today."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: "There has been work ongoing with assistance from other partner agencies today. Anyone who has seen or spoken to Duncan at any time since Wednesday, November 9 or has any other information on his whereabouts is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1261 of 14 November.
