On Monday, the American coach of Canadian and Italian Olympic champions was removed from the Paris Games. Rana Reider, who coached Canada’s Andre De Grasse and Italy’s Marcell Jacobs, was investigated for alleged sexual misconduct by the U.S. Center for SafeSport and placed on one-year probation, which ended in May.
Reider was accredited for the Olympics through the Canadian Olympic Committee for his coaching of De Grasse and is also the personal coach of Jacobs, both of whom have gold medals in their resumes. The Canadian Olympic Committee stated that the decision to provide Reider with access was based on the understanding that his probation with the U.S. Center for SafeSport had ended and that he had no other suspensions or sanctions.
However, on Sunday, new information regarding the appropriateness of Reider's accreditation for the Paris 2024 Games came to light. Following discussions with Athletics Canada, it was agreed that Reider's accreditation should be revoked.
As a result, De Grasse will be without his coach as he aims to defend his gold in the 200 semifinals on Wednesday and Thursday. Jacobs, on the other hand, will attempt to defend Italy's gold in the 4x100 relay without Reider's guidance.
