Coach McRae embracing 'new version' of Collingwood

Collingwood coach Craig McRae is not looking back on their 2023 premiership for inspiration, declaring he wants to create a "whole new version" of the Magpies.

After missing finals last season following their memorable grand-final victory, Collingwood are tipped to be one of the big improvers in 2025.

But McRae has put a line through their past success and will simply be attacking this season.

"I'm not really keen to recapture anything," he said on Friday.

"I'm keen to create a whole new version of us, a whole different feel and a whole different energy from different players.

"Somewhat of our system may remain the same, but what's going forward won't be on the basis of recapturing anything.

"We're excited for what's coming."

Recruits Tim Membrey and Harry Perryman will make their debuts for the Magpies when they face GWS on Sunday, while star defender Dan Houston's first outing in black and white will have to wait due to suspension.

"You bring in players of the quality of Dan and Tim, and obviously Harry, the place jumps a bit," McRae said.

"They're excited.

"They bring this huge talent into our organisation, and then there's an energy for that."

Premiership star Jordan De Goey will miss the trip to Engie Stadium as he recovers from a knee issue.

But the powerful midfield-forward trained strongly on Friday and is expected to be available for Collingwood's clash with Port Adelaide on March 15.

"Jordy's on a path to play, clearly not this week," McRae said.

"He's making a case for next week, but we'll see.

"We want to make sure Jordy gets a power of work into those legs of his.

"Last year we learned some good lessons about putting players out to play that were fit to play, but not fit to perform.

"Jordy will be fit to perform when he's available."
