Coach Burke adds another two years to Bulldogs contract

Western Bulldogs coach Nathan Burke will be at the helm of the women's team for another two years, after leading the side to their second AFLW finals series last year.

"To have another two seasons working with this group - it's probably hard to narrow down what excites me most," Burke said after signing a new contract.

The former St Kilda legend took over the reins in 2020 and says he's "under no illusion" more will be expected from him in the next two seasons.

"To have that is great," he said.

"The fact that the club has shown that faith in me is amazing."

With an AFL hall of fame honour and four all-Australian team selections under his belt, Burke said he was excited to focus on individual player growth.

Burke will also enter a full-time role with the club, becoming just one of seven full-time AFLW coaches after a Carlton review raised concerns about senior coach contracts in the league.

Bulldogs' Executive Director of Football, Chris Grant, said the trust being built between the players and Burke is a recipe for success.

"We're thrilled to have Nathan extending his tenure with us in a full-time capacity, and we look forward to our AFL Women's program continuing to improve," he said.
