Co Tyrone teen to fly high at cheerleading world championships in Orlando

A Co Tyrone teenager is set to fulfil his dream of competing in the top event for cheerleaders and tumblers in the globe.

Talented Ballygawley boy Jack Campbell, 14, will head to Orlando, Florida in April to compete in the Cheerleading Worlds to represent Ireland.

The St Ciaran’s College student will join 46 others from Ireland to go head to head against some of the biggest cheerleading squads in the world.

Speaking to MyTyrone, Jack’s mum Judy says it is a dream come true for her son.

“He is absolutely over the moon, this has been his dream to go over to the worlds,” Judy said.

“It has been his dream to go on the mat and represent Ireland along with all the guys he has been training with.

“These are his idols that he is going to be competing against.Jack is a tumbler and is one of Ireland’s top five boys at the moment at his level.

“There’s so much of an opportunity for him with this, you can gain scholarships in America.

“He’s flying out in April for two weeks, we only got the call last week to say he had been confirmed so we are just delighted.”

Jack trains locally with the Euphoria Allstars which are based in Strabane, but has been making regular trips to a highly regarded gym in Galway where he competes with some of the best in Ireland.

After disappointing news last year when his team was told they would not be travelling to the US for the games, Judy said it is especially sweet for Jack and his teammates.

"Jack had been previously picked for the junior team Ireland last year but after three or four months into the schedule and journeys to Galway to train the kids were left devastated to hear it wouldn’t be going ahead.

"We are just so proud that all his hard work is now paying off."
