Popular high street supermarket Co-op have issued an urgent recall on two items over fears shoppers may eat them out of date thanks to a labelling mixup.
Co-op Peri Peri Chicken Pasta Bowl and Co-op Prawn Marie Rose Layered Salad are being recalled because they have been labelled with a ‘use by’ date of July 1 2022 instead of June 1 2022.
The recall notice warns that after the June 1 'use by' date there is a risk of bacterial growth that could cause illness if eaten.
'Use by' dates are found on food that goes off quickly such as meat products or ready-to-eat meals.
According to Food Standards Agency: "A use-by date on food is about safety. This is the most important date to remember. You can eat food until and on the use-by date but not after."
For the Co-op customers who have bought the two products in question, this could lead to them thinking they are safe to eat when they aren't.
These are the two items that have been recalled:
Co-op Peri Peri Chicken Pasta Bowl
Pack size: 280g
Use by: July 1 2022
Co-op Prawn Marie Rose Layered Salad
Pack size: 280g
Use by: July 1 2022
Customers who have bought the affected items are being advised not to eat them and instead return them to your nearest store for a full refund.
Co-op are also putting up point-of-sale notices in their stores, explaining why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.
The Food Standards Agency issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.
