Co-op urgently recalls tuna products because of 'metal pieces' inside and warns they are 'unsafe to eat'

Co-op customers are being urged to check their cupboards for two different types of tuna after a health and safety warning was issued.

The supermarket is urgently recalling its tuna chunks in sunflower oil and tuna chunks in spring water as they may contain pieces of metal, making them unsafe to eat.

Shoppers are being asked to look for the affected products which have best before dates of 31 August 2024 and 31 August 2024.

The UK supermarket chain issued the urgent recall for the products after a food safety alert was issued from The Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Product recalls are issued when there may be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Sometimes goods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.

The food standards regulator has warned shoppers not to eat either of the affected products.

Point of sale notices have been displayed in all stores selling the affected products which tell customers why the product has been recalled and what to do if they have bought them.

Shoppers are being urged to return the products to store for a full refund with our without receipt. Any customers who are self-isolating or shielding can contact the Co-op Customer Careline on 0800 068 6727.
