The co-founder of Uncommitted National Movement announced on Tuesday that he will be casting his vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, despite the group's decision not to officially endorse the Democratic nominee. The co-founder, Abbas Alawieh, expressed concerns about former President Donald Trump and his policies, particularly towards Arab and Muslim Americans.

Alawieh, a former congressional staffer who was present at the US Capitol during the events of January 6, 2021, highlighted the perceived threats posed by Trump's agenda. He emphasized the need to scrutinize Trump's plans for the community and stressed the importance of standing against the potential violence and policy decisions that Trump may advocate for.

In a statement shared on the group's social media page, Alawieh mentioned his support for Harris while also calling for a coalition of voters to exert pressure on the incoming administration. He specifically urged for a reevaluation of the policy of providing unconditional weapons and funding to the Israeli military.

Alawieh underscored the challenges faced by the Arab American and Muslim American community, citing the emotional toll of witnessing loved ones living under the threat of bombings facilitated by US support to Benjamin Netanyahu's government. He acknowledged the complexities of navigating political decisions while grappling with personal grief and geopolitical realities.

The co-founder's stance reflects a broader sentiment within the Uncommitted National Movement, which has refrained from endorsing a presidential candidate but has been vocal in its opposition to Trump. Alawieh's call for a strategic approach to influencing policy decisions underscores the group's commitment to advocating for the interests of marginalized communities.
