A Co Fermanagh artist has released a painting as part of a fundraiser in memory of her parents and the care they received at the end of their lives.
Michelle Duffy of Camlake Canvas in Garrison painted her daffodil as part of Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal to acknowledge the role the organisation’s nurses played towards the end of her mother and father’s lives.
It was ultimately during her father’s battle with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) that Michelle was first inspired to begin painting.

Michelle says it was through her artwork that she was able to channel the grief of losing her parents.
“My Daffodil is in memory of my parents. I was able to channel the grief of losing loved ones through my artwork, spending hours in front of a canvass,” Michelle said.
“When my dad was diagnosed with COPD, I used to go and visit beautiful places, and that really inspired me to get out there and paint.
“This time of year is particularly moving for me as the 15th February is the anniversary of my dad’s passing.”
The Co Fermanagh artist added praise for the nurses who looked after her mum and dad during their illnesses.
“I’ve personally witnessed their care and support up close. The nurses really care about the people they are looking after daily," she said.
“They were able to ease the burden, sitting by their side and comforting them, as they do for many other families across the country.
“Mum was always a supporter of Marie Curie. In fact, after my father’s death, at mum’s request, I fundraised for them by taking part in a triathlon and a series of adventure races over a period of five months.
“It is a remarkable service that they provide. They are very dignified when entering a family home and caring for patients. They take the time to listen and fully understand the needs of both patient and loved ones.”
