Co Derry councillor urges young people to be 'respectful' to local community centre

A local Co Derry councillor has urged young people to be "respectful" when visiting and using a local community centre.

It comes after Newbuildings Community Centre had a window on their premises smashed.

The community-run centre offers sessions every day for the local community to use.

The centre strives to improve education levels by running courses and aims to improve the health and well-being of the community.

Ulster Unionist councillor, Ryan McCready, said it was "unhelpful" that such incidents had taken place at the centre.

In a video posted on Facebook, Mr McCready said: "If you are a young person, and I've been there, I'm not perfect, this is your community and if you're from somewhere else and young come in, please respect the community centre and its people.

"You're very welcome but breaking your own windows is not helpful and I really want it to stop.

"If you're in a position of influence or you're family or friends, please call people up on it.

"There can be a positive change here rather than a negative one."
